Outstanding scholar Chelsea Gilgore earns Lions award

LONG BEACH - The Long Beach Lions Club recently awarded a $2,000 scholarship to University of Washington sophomore Chelsea Gilgore. Presenting the award were Sherry Hash, scholarship committee chairperson and Royal Harshman, president of the Long Beach Lions Club.

Chelsea, the daughter of Chris and Laura Gilgore of Long Beach, is a 2005 graduate of Ilwaco High School.

The Lions Club awards a "Student of the Month" certificate during the school year to deserving senior students. These students can then apply for the scholarship during their sophomore year in college.

Chelsea maintains a 3.4 GPA. Her major is biology and she plans to attend pharmacy school to do research. She was home for the summer during which time she worked part-time at 42nd Street Cafe and at The Depot Restaurant.
