ILWACO, Wash. - Ilwaco will have a new District 2 port commissioner this fall.

Incumbent Dick Watrous, appointed two years ago, was voted out of office Tuesday night in a congested four-way primary. The top two candidates advancing to the November general election are Edwin Erola, of Chinook, and Dave Nichols, of Ilwaco.

Erola polled 150 votes (56 percent); Nichols had 54 votes (20 percent). Watrous was third with 37 votes (13 percent)

Erola has operated Edwing Boat Inc. in Chinook for 20 years and was a port engineer in Alaska; Nichols operates the Port of Ilwaco's fuel dock and has been a longtime sport and commercial fisherman. Also running was John O'Phelan, an executive at ShoreBank Pacific in Ilwaco, who polled 21 votes (7 percent).

In the other port seat on the fall ballot, District 1 Commissioner Dick Siefert, of Long Beach, is unopposed for election to a four-year unexpired term.

A crowded Long Beach City Council race was whittled down to two. Diana Tehrani polled 112 votes (41 percent) while Jerry Phillips polled 100 votes (36 percent) and they will face off in November. The others running were John Bageant, who had 28 votes (10 percent) and Jonathan Woodward, who earned 21 votes (7 percent).

In the city of Raymond, the four-way mayoral race is being reduced to two for the November general election, although election workers were watching closely and have not declared a winner as late votes are allowed to be counted if they have a Tuesday postmark.

Leading is Bob Jungar, who polled 358 votes (41 percent), followed by Bill Wilson with 254 votes (29 percent). However, Todd Stephens has 183 votes (21 percent) and may add to his total before the votes are certified at the end of the month. Michael "Hawk" Runyon trails with 47 votes (5 percent).

The Pacific County Fire District No. 1 levy passed easily with a total of 2,023 yes votes (68 percent) to 924 no votes (31 percent). The levy will raise $698,000 for emergency medical services.
