OCEAN PARK — A Seaview man died Saturday at 5:26 p.m. at Washington State Route 103 and 227th when he was struck by a pickup after standing in the highway.

Ray A. Berreth, 54, of Seaview “was standing in the middle of the southbound lane of SR103,” according to the Washington State Patrol. A 2003 GMC K1500 pickup driven by Kenneth R. Mathison, 65, of Vancouver struck Berreth. Mathison didn’t see Berreth, who died at the scene. No charges are pending.

Mathison, who was wearing his seatbelt, wasn’t injured but the pickup had to be towed. The highway was closed for four hours.

It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved, the State Patrol said.
