PORTLAND - Portland, Ore., resident Phyllis Ann Esping, 76, died Feb. 16, 2005, in Portland surrounded by her family.
The daughter of Albert and Lucille (Moffit) Sly, she was born May 17, 1928, in Phoenix, Ariz. She was raised in Naselle by her mother and stepfather, Cullen Baker Sr. Moving to Portland, she graduated from Jefferson High School and completed her degree in elementary education at Western Washington State College in Bellingham.
For 35 years she taught kindergarten and first-grade at Chief Joseph, Irvington and Martin Luther King elementary schools in Portland. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by brothers, Cullen Baker of Beaverton, Ore., and Jerry Baker of Canby, Ore.; children, Ron Esping Jr. of Portland, Ore., Lori Madrigal of Portland, Dan Esping of Beaverton, Ore., Amy Esping Gowan of Ft. Jones, Calif., Beth Larson of Vancouver and Eileen Esping of Portland; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Community Congregational Church in Naselle. Concluding graveside service followed at Peaceful Hill Cemetery in Naselle.
