On Dec. 4 at 8:10 a.m., a purse with cash in it was reported stolen from a vehicle during a car prowl.

    At 1:10 p.m., a suspicious package was reported outside a Long Beach bank. Arriving officers inspected the box and found kid’s toys inside.

    At 8:05 p.m., an alleged assault was reported in Ilwaco. After extensive interviews with various individuals who had very “convoluted” stories and with no one wanting to press charges, the officers cleared the scene.

    On Dec. 6 at 10:07 p.m., Caleb J. Schaeffer, age 28, was arrested and booked on an outstanding felony warrant.

    On Dec. 7 at 11:02 a.m., Kurt E. Kaino, age 50, of Long Beach, was arrested and booked into Pacific County Jail for second-degree criminal trespass.

    At 11:03 a.m., Brian K. Leding, age 32, from Seaview, was arrested and booked into Pacific County Jail on a Department of Corrections warrant.

    On Dec. 9 at 4:05 a.m., Michael D. Heslen, age 18, was arrested and booked into Pacific County Jail for two misdemeanor warrants.

    At 8:36 a.m., a fiberglass boat and trailer were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Sid Snyder Drive.

    SEASIDE — Seaside police arrested two men on theft charges and another on drug charges following a shoplifting spree Sunday morning.

    Johnny A. Cothren, 41, of Ocean Park, was arrested on one count of second-degree theft, three counts of third-degree theft, and he had two warrants from Warrenton Municipal Court. Jason E. Cothren, 36, of Long Beach, was arrested on charges of giving false information to police, second-degree theft, and he had a warrant from Astoria Municipal Court and a warrant from Warrenton Muncipal Court. Shawn M. Pine, 45, of Seaview, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. All three were taken to Clatsop County Jail, and the cases were sent to the district attorney.

    Police responded to a report of a theft at Radio Shack at 11:20 a.m. Sunday after employees said a man had stolen a Kindle Fire from a display case. Store employees said four people entered the store, and while the employees dealt with two of them, another grabbed the Kindle Fire and put it under his shirt as he left the store. One of the police officers remembered seeing four people in a white car not far from the store. Officers located the vehicle and four men in the 1700 block of South Roosevelt Drive. During their investigation, the officers learned that two of the men had warrants from Warrenton and Astoria, and the third man was in possession of methamphetamine and a large amount of marijuana. The three were taken to the Seaside Police Department for booking; the fourth man was released at the scene. During the booking process, officers uncovered additional property that appeared to be stolen. After contacting several local businesses, they found that thefts also had occurred in Rite Aid, Zumiez, Safeway and Coast Hardware.
