PORT OF ILWACO — The Port of Ilwaco has been awarded a Clean Marina certification, one of 56 marinas in the state to receive the award.

The nationwide program, a partnership of Puget Soundkeeper Alliance, EnviroStars Cooperative, Northwest Marine Trade Association, Washington Department of Ecology, Washington Department of Natural Resources and Washington Sea Grant, singles out marinas for their efforts to protect water quality, properly manage waste and promote clean boating.

Port of Ilwaco Manager Jim Neva said Operations and Maintenance Supervisor Mark Elliott has been working with Washington Sea Grant for some time and the award gives the port recognition for the “good housekeeping we were doing all along. Now we have the responsibility to live up to it.” He said the Clean Marina logo will be put on the port’s website and letterhead.

“It’s quite an honor,” Neva said.
