Port of Ilwaco Loses Desire

The fishing vessel Desire was pushed out of Ilwaco by the vessel Sea Siren on Wednesday, Oct. 27, after more than five years in the marina. The Desire is a 67-foot steel trawler constructed in Mobile, Ala. The vessel arrived in Ilwaco in 1999 in disabled condition and the vessel owner was bankrupt. The port worked out a deal with the bank and sold the vessel to a new owner from South Bend. Unfortunately, the plans to restore the vessel were never completed and although the port collected its moorage fees, port management became increasingly concerned about the potential liability posed by the vessel. On Sept. 4, the port took custody of the vessel under the state of Washington's Derelict Vessel Law. The vessel was sold at auction.
