SURFSIDE - On March 28 at about 7:30 p.m., homes in the Surfside area began to rumble. Many people called 911 saying they could or had felt and heard an earthquake. However, U.S.G.S. and University of Washington earthquake detection equipment did not pick up any earthquake activity. Subsequent calls by Stephanie Fritts, director of Pacific County Communications and the Emergency Management Agency to various military divisions said they had no military exercises going on in the area. So, was there an earthquake? No one seems to know.
