LONGVIEW - Raymond Walter Newman, 83, died Nov. 26, 2002 in Longview. He was born July 22, 1919 in Ridgefield, and spent many years in the Chinook area.

He served in the United States Army and then became a truck driver for Columbia River Paving in the construction business.

He loved the ocean, trips to Reno, Nev., and watching sports on television. He was a loving husband and had a dry sense of humor.

Mr. Newman is survived by his wife, Pearl D. Newman, at home; one step-daughter Diane Chenoweth of Vancouver; step-sons Clifton Bottemiller of Mukilteo, Eldon Bottemiller of South Bend, and Brian Bottemiller of Vancover; one sister-in-law Ruth Newman; one brother Marvin Newman and his wife, Nicki, of Ryderwood.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore. Donations may be made to Community Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632.

Arrangements were under the direction of Layne's Funeral Home in Battle Ground.
