OCEAN PARK - ReachOut Food Bank Director Mickey Padgett accepted a check for $2,847.62 from representatives of the Peninsula Christian Council and AAL Lutheran Brotherhood at a ceremony held at the Old Taylor House, Thursday, Sept. 26.

Funds were raised at a benefit dinner for ReachOut held on May 17 and hosted by the Peninsula Assembly of God Church.

According to Padgett, the check, supplemented by matching funds, brought the Food Bank within $31 of a $4,000 goal. She remarked, "I think it's a wonderful gift that speaks to our desire to feed the hungry."

Others attending the ceremony were Pastor Linda Smith (who presented the check), Pastor DeWayne La Pointe (consulting advisor to the Food Bank), Marjorie Williams (site supervisor), and Board of Director members Donna Simonson, Jim Williams, and Carol Porter. Others present included Loel and Carol Payton.

According to B.O.D. member Padgett, during the July, 2001 to June, 2002 period, the Food Bank fed 5,541 families on the Peninsula, providing 118, 211 pounds of food. That effort required 5,135 volunteer hours.

Peninsula residents wishing to contribute food, cash or volunteer time to the Food Bank are encouraged to call 665-4085.
