OCEAN PARK - On Thursday, June 8, Red Hats presented the volunteer organization for firefighters in our community a check from the proceeds of their cookbook sale.

The $500 will be used to buy a defibrillator and/or other equipment to help firefighters in their work saving lives.They also donated 20 cookbooks to the local humane society to sell and use the $200 at their shelter in Long Beach. Red Hats continue to support these two organizations' efforts in our community.

Cookbooks are still available at Coastal Candies and Two Steps Back in Ocean Park and at Just Treasuresin Ilwaco.Selling for $10 apiece, there are still 40 books left for those who have not purchased one.

The Red Hats meet the first Saturday of each month at the fire hall in Ocean Park at

1 p.m. If you are a lady, 50or older and like to wear purple with a red hat, come and bring your teacup and some cookies and enjoy the meeting. There's always something fun in the works for the Red Hats, so come check them out.
