Register now for free T-shirt at June 4 Dollars for Scholars sturgeon derby & car show in Skamokawa

Last year the cars rolled in to Skamokawa for the Rods and Reels Rod Run and the annual Dollars for Scholars Scholarship Barbecue and Sturgeon Derby. This year's festivities will be held June 4.

SKAMOKAWA — The 11th annual “Dollars for Scholars” Scholarship Barbecue and Sturgeon Derby and sixth annual Rods and Reels Rod Run will be Saturday, June 4 at the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds in Skamokawa. 

All proceeds go to benefit students at Naselle and Wahkiakum high schools and the events are sponsored by Wahkiakum Dollars for Scholars Foundation and the Naselle-Grays River Valley Education Association. Registration for the sturgeon derby is $35 and children 16 and under are $15. Entries before May 14 will receive a free T-shirt, dinner ticket, entry to drawings, and entry to the fishing derby. Entrants after May 14 will not receive a T-shirt. Entry forms can be left at Cathlamet Chevron, Cathlamet Bank of the Pacific and Naselle Hardware. 

Registration for a car in the show is $25 and includes a meal ticket, T-shirt, goodie bag and dash plaque. Participants registering the day of the show will not receive a T-shirt. Extra dash plaques are $2 and T-shirts may purchased for $15 while they last.

The barbecue will be from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Weigh-in for the sturgeon derby will be from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and prizes will be awarded at 4:30 p.m. 

Admission to visitors is free. The salmon and chicken barbecue is $8 for adults and $5 for children 16 and under. Kids can fish in the trout pond, there will be games and raffles, and a disc jockey and the Naselle Marimba Band will provide musical entertainment beginning at 8 a.m.
