Retirement: Col. Bob 'Lightning' Walters

OCEAN PARK - Col. Bob "Lightning" Walters retired from military service July 1. He entered the service with the Air National Guard to fly F-86 sabre jets.

After fulfilling his obligation, he left the service to become a general building contractor and a registered civil engineer. The pull of patriotic service brought him back into the reserves as an engineering officer.

Walters was called to active duty as a director of engineering and housing for 12 years to improve an aging military airfield and cantonment in southern California.

His significant other, Marty Martin, is both an airplane and helicopter pilot and a retired civil engineer.

Bob and Marty have resided in Ocean Park since December 2002.
