NASELLE - Naselle resident Robert Lee Wainamo, 70, died March 23, 2003 at the Veterans Medical Center in Portland, Ore. The youngest child of John and Ina (Olson) Wainamo, he was born May 9, 1932 on Puget Island. He grew up on Puget Island and on the family farm at Deep River.

Mr. Wainamo served with the United States Army for two years during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. Returning to Deep River, he worked in the woods as a logger for various contractors and also occasionally fished commercially. Fifteen years ago he moved to Naselle.

He was an avid wood cutter who always cut and stacked his winter supply. As an amateur carpenter he built bird houses and bird feeders and in earlier years enjoyed hunting and fishing. He stayed in touch with family members and was especially close to his sister Anne.

He is survived by a brother Carl Wainamo of Grants Pass, Ore; sister Sylvia Fagerholm of Stanwood; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother Arne and sisters Anne Strange and Martha Smith.

Graveside service will be Thursday, March 27, at 11 a.m. at Seal River Cemetery in Rosburg. Arrangements by Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach.
