PORTLAND - Ronald E. Cruz, 66, died Oct. 18, 2003 at OHSU hospital in Portland. Born July 17, 1937 in Los Angeles, Calif., he was the son of Ernest Cruz and Helen (Coulter) Cruz. He grew up in Los Angeles and enlisted in the Navy in 1954 where he served proudly for 22 years, retiring in 1976.
Mr. Cruz attended barber school and upon graduation he opened his own shop. In 1991 he and his wife, Suzanne, moved to the Long Beach Peninsula where he continued barbering.
One of his passions was singing, and he sang with the group called the "Galaxies." He also enjoyed karaoke singing, riding his motorcycle, watching the wild life on Skating Lake from his back deck, and his dog. Mr. Cruz was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ocean Park and the Ocean Park chapter of the Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife Suzanne of Ocean Park; two step-sons: Craig Walter and Blake Walter of Vancouver; a step-daughter Diane Walter-Duim of Santa Ana, Calif.; a sister Maria Mathes, and a brother Ernie Cruz, both of Los Angeles, Calif. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Remembrances are suggested in his name to the Pacific County Humane Society.
