NEWBERG, ORE. - Samuel H. Dinsmore, 84, died Nov. 13, 2004, in Newberg, Ore. He was born Oct. 13, 1920, in Butte, Mont., to Sadie and Samuel Dinsmore.
He attended various high schools and obtained a four-year college education in naval history at St. Martin's College in Olympia. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941, retiring as a commander in 1964. His Navy career took him to duty stations in Hawaii, California, and the Pentagon.
He married Thelma Wade in 1969. The couple resided in Ocean Park in 1971 and 1972 when he was employed by Telephone Utilities. He then worked as a utility engineer with the Washington State Utilities and Transportation Commission in Olympia. When he retired in 1990, they moved to Newberg, Ore., to live near family.
Survivors include his wife Thelma of Newberg; daughter Laurie Copelan of Olympia; sons Jeff Dinsmore of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Chris Dinsmore of Tacoma; stepdaughter Joni Fouts of Newberg, Ore., and stepson Brad Fouts of Lake Oswego, Ore.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial and gathering will be held at the home of stepson Brad Fouts in Lake Oswego on Dec. 4.
