Want to go to Switzerland next summer? Get a head start!

ILWACO - Though applications for the 2003 Swiss Summer Internship aren't due until Dec. 10, 2002 these last weeks before school starts would be an excellent time to pick up an application at any of the area libraries and get started on the process.

Several IHS alumni have completed their applications already, knowing that once they get back to school it can be hard to fit in one more essay!

The Swiss Summer Internship program offers a graduate of IHS the opportunity to spend 8-12 weeks as an intern at the Haemonetics International Headquarters in Switzerland. It is a common practice in European countries to employ students during their academic breaks. The purpose is to provide practical training in fields that are related to their academic work and to stimulate an interest in a career or continuing personal involvement in the international arena. In addition to the job, the Haemonetics internship includes round trip transportation, room and board, French language instruction at a local university and the opportunity to travel throughout Switzerland and Europe.

The program is offered to any student who has attended grades 9-12 at Ilwaco High School and who is planning to attend, or who is currently enrolled as a full-time student in, a 2-year or 4-year degree program or graduate program at a college, institute or university. The student must have a good academic record, have completed two years study of a foreign language and be able to demonstrate maturity and independence.

Haemonetics is an international corporation located in Cigny, Switzerland. It is the world's largest manufacturer and marketer of automated blood processing systems. The Haemonetics Swiss Internship program was established by James L. Peterson in 1995. Mr. Peterson is a founder and officer of Haemonetics. He and his wife Judy are natives of the Long Beach Peninsula and 1960 graduates of Ilwaco High School.

For more information, contact Ann Kischner at 642-4142. The deadline for completed applications for the 2003 internship is Dec. 10, 2002.
