SEAVIEW - The Shoalwater Restaurant at The Shelburne Inn in Seaview was recently among 33 restaurants statewide honored by the Washington Wine Commission in the first annual Washington Restaurant Wine Awards.

The Shoalwater was among four restaurants that received Washington Select honors for featuring at least 15 percent of the bottled wines on their list and 30p ercent of wines by the glass as Washington wines, as well for participating in Taste Washington Wine Month (March) promotions. The Shoalwater offers 132 Washington bottled wines (28 percent of the list) and 20 Washington wines (40 percent) by the glass. In addition, the restaurant featured Washington's Buty Winery of Walla Walla on March 7 in its 18th Northwest Winemakers' monthly dinner series.

Wine philosophy, wine service, staff training, wine list creativity, point-of-sale, promotional activities and customer service were the criteria used by judges to rate each establishment. The evaluation team was made up of wine and food writers, Seattle Times representatives, Washington Restaurant Association members, Washington winery members and the Washington Wine Commission.

The Washington Wine Commission is a nonprofit organization working to build awareness for Washington State wines.
