PACIFIC COUNTY - On Aug. 24 at 8:01 p.m., Washington State Patrol responded to a report of an accident .01 miles north of Long Beach. A vehicle driven by Melvin Engel Jr., age 74, from Stevenson, was heading northbound on SR-103 from north 28th Street when Mr. Engel suffered a massive heart attack and the vehicle left the road to the right, coming to rest in the ditch. Mr. Engel died at the scene. His three passengers were not injured. The 2001 Buick LeSabre he was driving sustained minor damage and was towed from the scene.

On Aug. 27 at 3:52 p.m., one mile east of Menlo, a 2005 Dodge Neon driven by Donna M. Buckendorf of Raymond was struck in the side by a 1986 Honda Fatcat 200, being driven by a 13-year-old female from Raymond. The ATV failed to stop and entered the state highway from a private driveway. The juvenile female driving the ATV sustained a broken leg and was taken to Willapa Harbor Hospital for treatment. Her 9-year-old female passenger sustained cuts and bruises and was also taken to Willapa Harbor Hospital for treatment. Neither of the occupants of the ATV was wearing helmets. Buckendorf was not injured. Her vehicle sustained $2,000 in damage.
