ILWACO - In a letter dated July 16, Ilwaco City Councilwoman Victoria Stoppiello announced her resignation from the council:
Stoppiello cited time pressures relating to her new job managing the Astoria Co-op.
"As a result, not only will I not run for re-election, but I am resigning my council position, to take effect Aug. 1.
"By doing this, I will bring some relief to my own schedule of commitments, but also provide an opportunity for the council to appoint a replacement who can devote more time and skills to the work of the 2006 budget preparation which will begin shortly. While I feel confident that I have the skills and concern to contribute to the budget process, to be realistic, I don't believe I have the time and energy to give it the proper focus."
Ilwaco City Clerk/Treasurer Debbie Gore said Mayor Ed Leonard will announce the resignation at the July 25 council meeting, asking for potential candidates to fill out Stoppiello's term, which ends Dec. 31 this year, to submit a resume to City Hall. Members of the City Council will review the applications and choose a person to fill out the term.
Filing for this year's November ballot is July 25 to 29 at the Pacific County Auditor's office - from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in South Bend and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Long Beach. The Long Beach office is closed between noon and 1 p.m.
