Three selected to represent IHS at 2003 Evergreen Girls State

Codie Jenkins and Megan Saunders were chosen to represent IHS at the annual Girls State event in Ellensburg in June. Jamie Landeros was chosen as the alternate.

ILWACO - The American Legion Auxiliary, Don R. Grable Unit 48 of Ilwaco recently chose two delegates and an alternate to attend the Evergreen Girls State event in Ellensburg from June 15 through June 21.

Once again the Lion's Club of Long Beach contributed the sponsorship fee for one of the delegates, choosing Megan Saunders, who is a member of the Lion's Leo Club.

Also chosen were Codie Maria Jenkins and alternate Jamie Landeros - who is also a Leo Club member.

All three girls were interviewed and were highly recommended to represent IHS. They were chosen on merits of scholastic achievement, extracurricular and community service work.

The purpose of the event is to teach about Americanism and procedures in government politics. Two senators will be elected from the attendants to represent the state of Washington at a Girls Nation event in Washington, D.C., in July.

The girls will receive credit and certificates for taking part in the experience. Several scholarships are also available to all who attend and graduate from Girls State.
