ILWACO — The American Legion’s 26th Annual Derald D. Robertson Safety Awards ceremony and banquet will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 6 p.m. at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco. Eight people who protect our safety on the Long Beach Peninsula will be honored after dinner. Those who will be honored are:

Pacific County Fire District 1 (Ocean Park): Captain Brad Weatherby, “Firefighter of the Year”

Ilwaco Volunteer Fire Department: Captain John Grocott, “Firefighter of the Year”

South Pacific Co. Technical Rescue: Eduardo Mendez, “Rescue Specialist of the Year”

Long Beach Police Department: Officer Jeffrey G. Cutting, “Officer of the Year”

Pacific County Sheriff’s Office: Deputy Sheriff Ron Clark, “Deputy Sheriff of the Year”

USCG Cape Disappointment: MK2 Wesley Hall, “Petty Officer of the Year”

USCG, Sector Columbia River: HS2 Christopher P. Moran, “Petty Officer of the Year”

USCG Auxiliary, Flotilla 62: Sherman G. Richman, “USCG Auxiliarist of the Year”

The featured speaker will be Jim Davidson, state commander of the American Legion. All community members are welcome. Those who are planning to attend are asked to call 642-4188 confirm their attendance. The American Legion Don R. Grable Post No. 48 sponsors the event, which is a family evening, with no alcoholic beverages being served. The American Legion and Auxiliary are providing all food and beverages.
