ILWACO - An allegedly drunken driver caused a messy multi-vehicle wreck last week near Ilwaco, according to the Washington State Patrol.
On May 8 at 9 p.m., at milepost 11 on Highway 101 near Ilwaco, Jon M. Elliott, age 45, of Ilwaco was southbound in his 1992 Honda Prelude when he crossed the centerline and struck a 2003 Winnebago motor home towing a 2004 Jeep Liberty, driven by 57-year-old Gregory Bauer of Vancouver.
Bauer attempted to swerve into the southbound lane to avoid a collision but was struck by Elliott in the northbound lane. A passenger in the motor home, Virginia L. Hall, age 83, of Vancouver, sustained a sore right knee and left shoulder and was transported to Ocean Beach Hospital where she was treated and released. Two other passengers in the motor home, Jack L. Hall and Pamela Bauer, both of Vancouver, were not injured.
The motor home and the Honda Prelude were both totaled and were towed from the scene. The Jeep Liberty had minor front-end damage and was driven from the scene.
Elliott was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants and crossing the centerline.
