ILWACO — At 4 p.m., Feb. 25, in the opening round of the WIAA 1A State Regional Basketball Tournament at Glacier Peak High School in Snohomish, the Lady Fishermen will take on the private school King’s who have a 19-6 record.  “We have seen film of them play and we are putting together a solid game plan,” Coach Ned Bittner said Tuesday.

The Fishermen boys will play at Glacier Peak at 5:45 p.m. against Vashon Island, last year’s number three team at the 1A tournament. A loss for either Ilwaco team will end their season under the new money-saving state tournament format. A win for the girls will have them playing the loser of Lynden Christian and Onalaska at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 with a trip to Yakima and the Sun Dome going to the winner.

The Ilwaco boys, should they win, will face the loser of Hoquiam and the state’s number one ranked and defending state champ Cascade Christian with a trip to the Sun Dome up for grabs, as well. If the Fishermen win their opener their game time will be 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26. Hoquiam defeated the Fishermen 68-59 in the district tournament Feb. 10 at Black Hills. “We will have our work cut out for us,” Coach Kip Meinhardt said Tuesday
