PENINSULA — The future of Ocean Beach School District will be the focus of upcoming community meetings.

The school board will interview superintendent candidate Amy Huntley at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4 at the district’s administration office. Huntley serves as principal of Ocean Beach Alternative School and as the district’s director of student learning.

The district will also host two meetings about school district reconfiguration. The meetings will be held at Ocean Park Elementary on Monday, Jan. 7 and the district’s administration office on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Both meetings start at 6 p.m.

The school reconfiguration meetings will provide community members a chance to learn about challenges the district faces and potential solutions.

According to someone knowledgeable about the discussions, no schools are slated for closure. If anything, the district has somewhat struggled in recent years to house everyone.

"The four options that will be presented for consideration are two variations on combining grade levels — also known as the feeder school models, moving the 8th grade to IHS, and simply not changing anything," community member Anna Taft said.
