Buoy 10 reportCAPE D - The river has been slow, the ocean has been fast and the boaters have been less, but Buoy 10 season is on its way.

The USCG Station Cape Disappointment reported 70 search and rescue calls and zero fatalities for the period of Aug. 1 through Aug. 12 of this year. For the same period last year, there were 58 search and rescue calls and one fatality.

Since October 2002 the local Coast Guard has recorded 314 search and rescue calls, 144 boardings, and four fatalities.

Fort Canby, Chinook and Ilwaco docks are being manned by Coast Guard Auxiliary personnel who are handing out safety packets to all boaters and talking to them and their passengers about boating safety, and they are even giving free vessel inspections. The purpose of this is to promote not only a great fishing season but one that is safe and fun for everyone.
