What is the goal or purpose of your group?

Serving those people that are in need. They don’t have to have any particular problems, they just need food and they need to eat. That’s the basis of what we do. It’s amazing how many people need to eat on the Peninsula. I had a couple of kids in their late teens or early 20s come in with a few kids and living out of their car. They came in and we packed them up with food and they were on their way. We support the north end, while His Support Table takes care of the south end. We serve 120 to 125 every Monday. The people are so appreciative; we put a basket for donations and we get about $20 each time. People can eat in — we have 15 to 20 that eat in — or eat out. We have a few volunteers that deliver 40, 50, sometimes 60 meals ... We spend $400 to $500 a month on food.

    How are your efforts supported?

Private donations. We get funded by nobody.

In what positions or areas do you need help?

We have eight teams and different teams come with different menus every Monday. And some of the teams need an extra one or two people for delivering or preparing food.

How much time should a volunteer expect to commit?

Well if they’re going to go in and cook, we usually get there around 9 a.m. to start cooking, and the cooking is done by about 11 a.m. And then people come in to pick up meals to deliver and we’re open 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. So maybe three hours. If they come in to clean up or wash dishes, maybe a hour and a half.

    How can someone become involved?
