LONG BEACH - Ocean Park resident Walter P. "Walt" Peterson, 90, died Sept. 8, 2005, in Long Beach. Born March 17, 1915, in Portland, Ore., he was the son of Paul and Ellen (Backman) Peterson. He grew up in Portland and was a graduate of Benson Polytechnic High School.

Following high school, Mr. Peterson worked as an upholsterer in Portland before moving to Seattle where he worked at Boeing Aircraft for five years. Returning to Portland he worked in construction as a tile setter for 48 years until retirement.

Thirty years ago he moved to Ocean Park where he became a member of the Eagles Aerie and served as their secretary for 15 years. He was also a member of the Ocean Park Moose and Long Beach Elks and had been a member of the Elks lodge in Milwaukie, Ore., for more than 35 years. He enjoyed fishing, fishing and fishing and also clam digging. He was a people person who enjoyed spending time with his many friends and helping others.

He and Marie Dietz were married Sept. 18, 1937; she died in April 2000. Survivors include daughters Karen Sivesind of Oregon City, Ore., and Sondra Ragle of West Linn, Ore.; son Richard Peterson of Portland; brother Rudy Peterson of Fair Oaks, Calif.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

At his request no service will be held. Cremation arrangements by Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach.
