ILWACO - Ilwaco resident Wayne M. Freestone, 39, was born Jan. 1, 1965, in Littleton, Colo., the son of Leonard and Doris Freestone. His birth on New Year's Day was a special event then and throughout his life. His health prevented him from doing many of his favorite activities in the past year, and he died peacefully at the home he loved on Feb. 23, 2004.
Mr. Freestone was educated in Colorado, and during high school, spent his summer vacations traveling around Europe. With a desire to see the West Coast, he moved to California and later to the Pacific Northwest where he worked in the food industry in Portland and Seattle.
In the mid-1990s, he settled on the Peninsula where he helped manage the Lightship Restaurant and later worked at Maxi's Bar and Grill as a mixologist. A talented individual, he loved to spend time working on home projects, listening to music or helping people with computers.
Survivors include his parents Leonard and Doris Freestone of Franktown, Colo.; sisters Denita Renfrew and Katrina Padilla, both of Colorado; nephews Shaun Hisle, Luke Hisle and Nathan Hisle; special friends Tom and Marilyn Williams, Arlene Halldorson, Joann Hutchinson, Neal Siegel, Brian Thompson, Jay Sauvage and his best friend and canine companion, Abbey,
