SOUTH BEND - Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste recently presented several individuals with the agency's Commendation Award for their efforts supporting the investigation and shooting of Trooper Scott Johnson. Johnson was shot while impounding a vehicle on February 13 in Long Beach.

The following individuals were recognized: Denise Rowlett, deputy director Pacific County Emergency Management; Stephanie Fritts, director Pacific County Emergency Management; Lt. Richard Byrd, Pacific County Sheriff's Office; Detective Pat Matlock, Pacific County Sheriff's Office; Sgt. Jim Bergstrom, Pacific County Sheriff's Office; Scott Hamilton, Pacific County systems administrator; Officer Casey Meling, Long Beach Police Department; and Reserve Officer Sarah Vaughn, Long Beach Police Department.
