Pastor John “JB” Brandt

    ILWACO — Pastor JB Brandt, 77, of Ilwaco, died Aug. 21, 2012, in Ilwaco. He was born Nov. 14, 1935, to John Birger and Jessie (Thorson) Brandt Sr. He graduated from Astoria High School in 1953. He graduated from the University of Oregon and completed an additional year of law school there. Following that, he attended seminary school in Illinois. Summers were spent on his fishing boat, the Jessie B.

    After his ordination he was first assigned a position as assistant pastor in Seattle. He then moved to Aberdeen where he was pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years. From Aberdeen he moved to Everett where he was the pastor of Zion Lutheran Church until his retirement in 2006. He then moved to Ilwaco. Throughout his life, Pastor Brandt traveled extensively and made friends where ever he went. He was also very gifted musciain, playing the piano and organ. He was known as a scholar, great storyteller and was an avid reader.

    JB is survived by his sister Jessie (George) Simpson of Astoria and cousin Kermit Brandt of Chicago, as well as nephews, nieces and many friends.

    A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29,  at 11 a.m., at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chinook with a reception following at the Chinook school gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, please give to the local organization of one’s choice. A private graveside ser-vice has been held at the Brandt family plot at Greenwood Cemetery in Astoria.
