LONG BEACH — Ric Carney, 67, died Nov. 14, 2018, in Long Beach. He was born on May 18, 1951, in Ogden, Utah to Mary Mitchel and E. Fay Rippon. He spent some of his early life living in a chateau in Chateauroux, France off the Indre River, while his father was stationed there in the U.S. Air Force.

Following divorce, his mother married Vince Carney. Ric grew up in Ogden, skiing and target shooting. He attended Weber College and worked as an electrician and then worked for 20 years in two canneries, East Point Seafoods, where he met his wife of 30 years, the love of his life, Arieta “Lata,” and at Jessie’s Ilwaco Fish Company.

Ric and Lata loved to sing together and were active members of Family Worship Center. Ric was known for being funny, loving, well-liked and kind; for seeing the good in others, and for loving Lata.

Survivors include his wife, Lata, his mother, Mary Carney Jensen, his father, E. Fay Rippon; his sister, Patti (Chris) Zimmerman; his brother, Michael Carney; two nieces and one nephew. His stepfather, Vince Carney, preceded him in death.

Services were held Nov. 18 at Family Worship Center, Ocean Park.
