“Thumbs” and “Big Foot” are just two of the wonderful kitties available at the kitty sale this week — and they are special! This sweet cat and darling kitten are polydactyl, meaning they were born with extra toes. This is a genetic trait, and does not affect the health of the cats.

Famed author Ernest Hemingway had a definite soft spot for these multi-toed cats after a ship’s captain gave him a white six-toed cat that he named Snow White. His home in Key West is now a museum. Up to 50 polydactyl descendants of Snow White still inhabit the grounds.

Thumbs is one of the sweetest kitties we have ever had at the shelter. She loves attention and nothing bothers her — she gets along well with other cats and even seems interested in the dogs that often pass through the lobby.

Big Foot might be a small black kitten but his feet are very big with cute multiple toes. He is very sweet and playful, was raised in a loving foster home, and adores people.

The kitty sale will run through this Saturday, Dec.15. Adoption fees during this sale are less than half of the usual fees. Adult cats (a year to age seven) are only $15, “cattens” five to 11 months are just $25, and kittens (less than five months) are $50. The best sale offer is our “Seniors adopting Seniors” promotion where senior people (55-plus) can adopt a senior cat (eight years and over) for just $5. Now that is a whole lot of love for only $5.

Come in and meet Thumbs and Big Foot and all the great kitties waiting for their loving forever homes. Get a new loving companion at a great price!

ter Wish List

As 2018 draws to a close, we are hoping that our loyal supporters will remember the homeless pets being cared for here in their community “no-kill” shelter when making end of the year donations to worthy causes. The SPCHS is a 501© (3) organization, which means that donations are deductible within IRS guidelines.

We are very careful stewards of the funds we receive, and when you donate, you can be assured that a very large percentage of your donation goes directly to the care of the pets. Thank you so much for caring!

Adoptions require approval of an adoption application. Applications are available at beachpets.com. Email the completed form to spchs330@gmail.com. Prospective adopters can also fill out an application at the shelter.

SPCHS Shelter is at 330 Second St. NE, Long Beach, WA 98631 (P.O. Box 101) 642-1180. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
