As 2019 unfolds, we find ourselves with a large number of cats and dogs hoping to find their forever homes. We are doing a “mini sale” on three young Chihuahua mixes to help them find their new people. For the New Year, these little guys can be adopted for only $50 each — that’s only about a third of their usual adoption fees!

“Nugget” is tan with cute large ears and a waggle tail. He is active and loves to play. He is not a couch potato, and would do better in a more active home. He probably would do best as the only dog in the home.

“Teddy” is a little Chihuahua/doxie mix who is tan with cute white accents. He is sweet, loves people and is quite energetic at only 2 years old.

“Corky” is a year old chi mix with a brown and white coat. Our dog walkers say he is particularly entertaining when they take him out. He is peppy for the first half of the walk, but during the second half he spends his time trying to convince the walker to pick him up and carry him for the rest of the way! He is physically able to complete the walk, but seems to enjoy the closeness of being carried even more — a true lap dog.

If you have been wanting a new small best friend, now is a great time to check out the three Chihuahua boys. They are going to provide their new owners with a lot of love and company — all in small packages and at a great price!

We also have some wonderful cats and older kittens needing homes. “Thumbs” is a kitty we wrote about before the holidays, and sadly, no one came for her.

She is an incredibly sweet, affectionate, laid-back kitty who is also polydactyl, meaning she has extra toes. She seems to love everything and everybody, and it is sad to see her linger in the shelter. A new owner taking her home will be rewarded with purring and cuddling. Thumbs probably would do well in a home with gentle kids.

Shelter Wish List

We have received some wonderful donations — both cash and goods — the past few weeks from our supporters who want to help the homeless pets. SPCHS receives no government funds, and relies on adoption fees, grants, donations, and fund raising to maintain the shelter and the Humane Society programs.

SPCHS is a non-profit 501© (3) organization, and we are hoping that you too will remember the pets in your charitable year-end giving. We are very careful stewards of donated funds, and donors can be assured that a very large percentage of their donations goes directly to the animals.

Adoptions require approval of an adoption application. Applications are available at Email the completed form to Prospective adopters can also fill out an application at the shelter. SPCHS Shelter is at 330 Second St. NE, Long Beach, WA 98631 (P.O. Box 101) 642-1180. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
