On Jan. 15 the assessor’s office is mailing out letters to people currently enrolled in the senior/disabled persons program. We are auditing the income and residency requirements. Pacific County does these audits every three years.
The letter reads as follows:
RE: EXEMPTION RENEWAL
It is that time again to audit my files for the property tax exemption you are receiving in Pacific County.
Please fill out and sign the enclosed Renewal Form and return it to me by Friday, May 29, 2020.
I will need all of your 2019 income information. If you are going to file a 2019 income tax return, this is the information I need, along with all your income documentation. If you are not going to file a tax return, you will need to submit your 1099s or a bank statement showing your deposits. If you are reporting any deductions — ie: prescription drugs, medicare insurance premiums, nursing home expenses — I will need proof of that also.
New criteria! You need to be living in your home more than nine months out of the year. This has changed from six months.
Please remember, if your family member is deceased, if you have moved anywhere other than an assisted living care facility or nursing home, you no longer qualify for this program. Your income must be under $40,000 and there are three different levels of exemption under this $40,000 limit. This may or may not result in a tax roll correction for your 2020 taxes due to this audit.
I will be at the Long Beach office every Wednesday for those of you on the Long Beach Peninsula. I will be there from 9 a.m. to noon, or until I have helped everyone in line. Please be patient. I am in South Bend the rest of the time and there is always someone in the South Bend office that can help you every day 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday.
If you are mailing in your form, make sure you have two witness signatures. Any incomplete forms will be returned.
Please call me if you have any questions. South County 360-642-9300 ext-2207 or North County 360-875-9300 ext-2207.
