To be a Seattle Seahawks fan is usually — but not always — an exercise in frustration. This year was certainly shaping up to be one more in a string of disappointments. At 7 and 9, it was a losing season.

And yet, through the strange and wonderful workings of the NFL’s wild card system, the Seahawks made the playoffs Sunday by a wing and a prayer.

As the New York Times noted Monday, the Seahawks are thus “the worst playoff team in NFL history. They are the first to win a division with a losing record and the third to make the playoffs with a sub-.500 record.”

Could they be the Cinderella team of this post-season? Here’s hoping!
