I am writing to complain about the level of emergency services currently available to the residents of Ilwaco. Ever since the fire station burned down, making Ilwaco a national laughing stock, the City of Ilwaco has contracted with Medix of Warrenton for emergency services. I do not feel that Medix personnel have the commitment to the community that the fire department had when they still answered medical emergency calls. My elderly mother who is an Ilwaco resident has had need of those services from time to time and on two occasions the level of service has been unacceptable.

I live 150 miles away. I pay for a medical alert system for my mother which is supposed to give her and me some peace of mind, but the current situation with the City of Ilwaco's emergency services does nothing to help that. When my mother has had to wait for thirty minutes for someone to come from Warrenton I cannot help but feel angry that Ilwaco no longer has its own EMTs to answer calls. Had she been critically ill those thirty minutes might have made the difference between life and death. My husband and I are property owners in Ilwaco and do not feel that the level of emergency services in Ilwaco is what we pay property taxes for especially when the brand new fire department is two blocks from my mother's apartment.
