I have recently learned from friends in Seaview that there is a proposal to build homes in the dunes south of Seaview. I am dismayed. I visit the Peninsula two or three times every year and have walked all the trails in its state parks. I am very interested in the Discovery Trail and have delighted in walking Long Beach's dunes trail and boardwalk. Two years ago when I followed 17th St. South to the beach, I found a huge house being built next to the trail. I considered it to be an offensive intrusion into my enjoyment of a natural area. Construction in the dunes south of Seaview would certainly destroy the viewscape of that area.

I belong to Vancouver USA Volkssporters. For the last several years we have had three seasonal walks in the Ilwaco/Seaview/Long Beach area. In addition, we have held several one-day walking events on the Peninsula. The last one followed the Discovery Trail from its origin in Ilwaco to the dunes by Beards Hollow. This year we have been asked to put on a walk in July in conjunction with a regional Volkssporting conference. We are considering including the Discovery Trail stretch between Beards Hollow and Long Beach for its historical significance and beauty.
