All of us associated with Grays Harbor College at our Ilwaco Education Center were saddened by recent news of the death of Noreen Robinson. For us, she has been the most encouraging, community-minded landlady and we will certainly miss her. Most definitely, we have her to thank for the growing college programs in the Ilwaco/Long Beach area.

Years ago, she first welcomed the "New Chance" program, sponsored jointly by Grays Harbor College and Employment Security, as we sought solutions for unemployed workers in the logging and fishing industries. As our classes grew in number and more GHC courses were introduced, she continued to be our landlady at various locations. Clearly she recognized the opportunities that came for her community with a strong and expanding presence for the college.

Mrs. Robinson's initial encouragement many years ago and her continuing support since caused our education center to outgrow its current location (fondly known as "The Old Liquor Store"). Truly, we would not be building and moving into our own facility in the Port of Ilwaco area had it not been for Noreen Robinson. We will miss her at our grand opening later this year, but we know she will be with us in spirit.
