I wish to commend Congresswoman Jamie Herrera Beutler for calling a town hall meeting regarding the proposed Comprehensive Conservation Plan for the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge.

For those who were not there, the meeting was extremely well attended with Hilltop auditorium being three-quarters full. It certainly appeared that the overwhelming opinion was that the plan needed to go back to the drawing board for further consideration and revisions. I felt that the panel of speakers was well informed and discussion between the panel and audience was civil and well presented. It was especially gratifying to have Rep. Brian Blake and County Commissioner Jon Kaino on the panel and Rep. Dean Takko in the audience.

In these especially trying times of national, state and county budget problems, it means a great deal that our political representatives could find time to address our local issues. I personally extend my thanks to each of them and would encourage our other local citizens to do the same.
