I enjoy receiving time and money saving tips as much as the next person, so I wanted to take the opportunity to pass along some mailing tips.

While we love seeing our customers at the post office, there are many convenient alternatives. So next time you’re thinking of visiting the post office to ship a priority or express mail package, put down your car keys and use the online post office at usps.com. Printing an online shipping label will only take a few minutes, and you will not only save time and gas, you’ll pay up to 11 percent less than you would at the post office.

And the savings don’t stop there. When shipping online you receive free delivery confirmation service, a 70-cent value. You can also request a free pickup of your package the next day. Submit the request by 2 a.m., central time, and your letter carrier will pick up your package when he or she comes by the next day. Won’t be home? Just tell us where to find the package, such as inside the screen door. Even the boxes are free when you ship using priority mail and express mail. And you don’t even have to know the weight of the package if you use priority mail flat-rate boxes. Flat-rate boxes can de delivered to your home or business at no charge by calling 800-610-8734 or online at usps.com/supplies.

In addition to shipping packages on usps.com, customers can buy stamps, submit a change of address, look up a zip code, find the nearest blue collection box, and more. When ordering stamps online or by phone at 800-STAMP-24 (800-782-6724), there is a small handling fee, usually $1, to prepare and ship your entire stamp order. You can skip the fee by ordering your stamps by mail. Simply request an order form from your carrier or at your post office. Of course many of you already know that rural carriers are post offices on wheels.

We look forward to serving you whether it’s online, on the phone, or at the Ilwaco Post Office!
