A law we recently passed makes it necessary for the PUD to start buying "renewable power," but this does not include water-generated power. Our PUD doesn't need any additional power but due to this law, they have to buy this power that is more expensive, which increased the cost of the power we use. Our representatives have been lobbying for at least two sessions to get the law changed to say when more power is needed they must buy other sources of power. Please do your part to see that our people in the legislature support this change in the law.

The PUD has also told us that Bonneville wants to increase our rates by 8.5 percent. If you look on your bill you will see that they are giving the investor-owned utilities 7 percent of what we pay. It is my understanding that the courts have held that this process is now lawful and the money taken from us should be returned to us. If they would just stop sending the 7 percent of what we pay to the investor-owned utilities, this should cover their increase without increasing our rates. They should also be forced to return the millions they have taken from us. In Pacific County, there are two representatives and one senator to carry the message. Let's make sure they know what our message is!
