It is such a small thing but the rewards are amazing! Be a volunteer at the Ocean Park Elementary School. Not only did I totally enjoy my time reading with some of the sweetest children on the Peninsula, I saw the dedicated, creative, hard work done by the teachers in the school.

As you are planning life after summer vacations, company and weekend festivals here, consider calling Mr. Salisbury, principal or Ms. Fletcher, teacher/resource coordinator at 665-4815 to discuss what opportunities are open to you at Ocean Park Elementary School.

My experience last year was extremely positive; I received training and support until I felt comfortable with the expectations. There are so many stresses on parents these days; teachers are famously stretched thin; it's time for all of us to lend a hand.

I am a product of public education; I've always supported public schools. It was this volunteer experience that made me truly proud of public education and the work teachers do. All of that and the children are fun. Being around youthful energy for a few hours a week is good for you. Call and volunteer. It will put a smile on your heart.
