Heart to Heart Luncheon

On Feb. 1, the Ocean Beach Hospital and Ocean Beach Hospital Auxiliary hosted the annual Heart to Heart luncheon at the Elks lodge. All those who attended said the lunch was very good and the information very worthwhile.

The committee consisting of Denise Ross, Geri Marcus, Tammy Jefferies and Deanna Duret, did an excellent job organizing this event. They spent many weeks in the planning and were assisted by the auxiliary members plus many others who just offered to help. They worked hard on Thursday evening setting up the hall and then again on Friday during the actual event.

The program consisted of three speakers: Julia Miller, Jennifer Vedenoja and Dr. Pattie Malone. They all spoke about women’s hearts and how heart attacks are different from men’s. We would like to thank all of you who helped with this fine event especially to Dixie Pine, Francis Vanderventer, Nancy Baton and Kitty Hampton, and also to those who donated the wonderful door prizes, which included a queen-size quilt made and donated by Francis Vanderventer, a lap quilt made and donated by Beverly Wakeman, a gift certificate from the Depot Restaurant from Mike and Nancy and a spa basket from the hospital auxiliary. Thanks a lot. The luncheon consisted of a chicken salad prepared by our very efficient dietitian, Deanna Duret. It drew many praises.

This event is hosted each year by the hospital and is a great event for our little community. The ladies of our area love to dress up in their finest red attire and have a lunch out with their friends. It is a great community affair and we hope to be able to continue it.

Thanks also go out to Dooger’s Restaurant, Beachdog.com, Scoopers, Long Beach Pharmacy, Jessie’s Fish, Paul’s Hair Benders Salon, Bank of Pacific and also to the belly dancers for their great performance. It takes a village to raise awareness to our hearts.

The hospital auxiliary works hard to earn money to buy anything for the hospital that is for the care and comfort of our patients. For any of you ladies out there that can spare a few hours of your time each week, we would love to have you join us in this worthwhile endeavor. Just stop by in our little shop in the hospital and ask for an application to join. You will be glad you did! See you next year at the Heart to Heart luncheon.

By the way, if you belong to the auxiliary, you get a discount when you join Flight for Life, and also free flu shots each year — such a deal!

Thank you to the Long Beach Kiwanis and the morning and evening Rotary Club of Southwest Pacific County for inviting me to do outreach at their meetings recently. I have met some amazing folks and appreciate their commitment to the community. It has been my pleasure meeting all of you. Thank you again.
