In response to the editorial “Community Colleges Deserve Support,” I would like to add to the information provided. Yes, community colleges deserve support, including and especially the one right here in Pacific County: Grays Harbor College.
We offer a variety of courses at the Columbia Education Center campus in Ilwaco. In addition to our academic courses leading to associate's degrees, we offer prerequisites to several four-year programs as well.
We also offer a full “Transitions” program, including GED prep classes, high school 21+ that allows students without high school diplomas to earn one, and English Language Acquisition classes. Most of these classes are low-cost or free. We also offer testing services for GED and other agencies.
But wait, that’s not all! We also offer a number of Community Education classes for anyone and everyone. Want to learn to play guitar? Need help with marine gardening? Can’t figure out that new computer — take a Word or Excel class or just a beginning computers course. These classes and many more are available right here in South County.
Grays Harbor College includes campuses here in Ilwaco and in Raymond. Columbia Education Center in Ilwaco is at 208 Advent Ave. SE or call Bruce at 360-642-9433. Support your local community college!
