There is a group of people who believe only the rich white men should run this country. That is called “oligarchy.” “Democracy in Chains” by Nancy MacLean describes the history of American Politics with respect to racism over the last 100 years. She shows how a group called Koch Industries and their friends have been influencing American politics for the last 50-plus years. They have agencies in each state writing policies, which the state government then implements, which work in subtle ways to undermine the American democratic process. Specifically, they write policies, which prevent certain citizens from voting. These groups have been promoting hate, racism, sexism, and other prejudices throughout the U.S.
The Koch Industries group has gradually made the US into an oligarchy. The rich are getting richer and taking control of American government. Over the past two or three decades, the United States of America has become more and more like Russia. In order to capitalize on this, Putin started a cyberwar against the U.S. in 2014. This information is in “Road to Unfreedom” by Timothy Snyder.
Russians use social media to promote racism, sexism other prejudices and hate crimes. Russians have infiltrated the NRA (National Rifle Association) and are promoting fear of immigrants and hate crimes. It was Russians who started the false rumor that President Obama was not born in the U.S. Russians used the internet to hurt Hillary Clinton, even suggesting someone murder her. They actively worked through internet social media to get Trump elected.
Trump is following Putin's plan. He lies constantly and puts down news reporting. Trump promotes division and has written and gotten passed tax laws that seriously favor the rich. That tax law also hurt the Affordable Care Act so millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions cannot get medical insurance or care. Trump is creating pain for millions of Americans and blaming anyone he can think of. He is promoting the belief we can't do anything about it.
If you are in favor of oligarchy, fine. If you don't mind becoming a Russian in a few more years, fine. If you believe in democracy and want the U.S. to return to democratic practices, educate yourself and become politically active at all levels of government.
