SPOKANE - The Southwest Washington B basketball teams had one of their best tournaments, in recent years, with three of the four teams placing among the final eight in the boys and girls tournaments. A year ago, only one SWW team - the Naselle Cometes girls team which finished seventh - placed among the six entries from the district.

Both area boys teams placed, with the Cathlamet Mules finishing second after getting runover by Republic of the Spokane area 65-43 in the championship game. The Willapa Valley Vikings lost to Republic in the semis, and then lost on a last-second shot 60-59 in the finals to Tekoa-Oakesdale for a sixth-place finish.
