LONG BEACH - Chico's Pizza women's softball team won one of four games in their own tournament over the weekend. The Pizza ladies lost to Nice Girls 1-11 and 0-23 to Bill's before eking out a 28-24 slugfest against Waste Connection in pool play Saturday.

The local gals then dropped an 11-12 thriller to Spud's to be eliminated in the consolation bracket Sunday morning, finishing out of any hardware.

Chico's captain Marcia Glasson had praise for Ericka Karnofski and Lanie Kary, saying the duo hit several home runs and were the leading hitters. Other players included Jennifer Cornish, Shelba Marracci, Heather Booterbeaugh, Shannon Noonan, Wendy Jacobsen, Tracy Kary, Robin Williams, and Jennie Currie.

Chico's has had better luck during the summer in the Astoria Parks and Recreation League, going 4-1 in the Ocean League and 2-1 in the upper-division Pacific League the second half of the season.
