LaCENTER — “We missed our last three free throws, including the front end of a one-and-one and we missed our last three field goals and they were all solid looks,” coach Ned Bittner lamented after the Lady Fishermen dropped a 44-42 pivotal Trico League game to LaCenter there Tuesday, Jan. 25.

“To play that close to a good team in that home-court environment is a tribute to our girls.”

Kaino finished with a career-high 17 points and Alexa Wirkkala poured in 16 for Ilwaco. Kady Kirby converted a pair of “three’s” and played “excellent defense” on Kylie Monson according to Bittner. Kenzi Wirkkala was held to a season-low two points as much by being in foul trouble as by the Lady Wildcat defense. Logan Manecke added a foul shot to the cause.

Ilwaco had nine two-point field goals, five treys, and was 9-19 from the foul line for 47 percent, a key statistic for the contest. LaCenter was only 6-13 from the line for a meager 46 percent, made four treys, and knocked down 13 field goals from inside the arc.
