AMANDA PARK - The long trip to Amanda Park proved to be a very fruitful trip, indeed, as the Naselle Comets girls basketball team broke out of their losing streak with a convincing 43-31 win over the young Lake Quinault Elk.
The game, played Saturday Jan. 10, in the Elk gym, gave the Comets a 3-4 Pacific League record and 3-8 record overall.
"It was a good win for us. We needed that," exclaimed a happy Naselle coach Bob Torppa. "We did what we wanted to do by getting the ball inside to Kelli (Revis) and Annie (Herrold). Kelli had a great game. Quinault didn't have anyone who could handle her."
Torppa said that his team had fewer turnovers than than in previous games.
The Comets jumped out to a big lead, leading 11-2 after one period, 22-4 at the half. The Elk rallied a bit in the third period, where they were outscored 14-10. The Naselle reserves then took over and were outscored 8-11 in the final period for the 43-31 Naselle win.
"We hope to continue to play the way that we are now in our next games," said Torppa. "We travel to Lacey for a rematch with Northwest Christian next. (That game was played last night, Tuesday.) This Thursday, we go to South Bend to makeup the game that was postponed last week. The Indians are a real strong team so that will be a real tough test."
There was no JV game at Lake Quinault.
